Our destiny is the Maracaibo Lake for 2 days and 1 night sleeping in palafito (Indigenous house on the water). Between Santa Ana and Catatumbo Rivers lies a vast area of swamps inhabited by the Motilones Indians. Catatumbo National Park, also known as “Cienagas de Juan Manuel”, it is a botanical reserve established in 1991. The lands of the Catatumbo Delta are very fertile and play a vital environmental role in the region of Maracaibo Lake providing habitat for many types of birds, particularly waterfowl such as great blue herons along with several mammals, and freshwater dolphins. The Catatumbo Delta is famous for its mysterious lightning, a unique natural phenomenon which was in other times known as the "Faro de Maracaibo.”
