The greenest campus in the United Kingdom

In 2016, following three years of complete renovation carried out by the Uliving consortium, which was made up of lead company Linkcity, formerly 8868体育APP Development, a subsidiary of 8868体育APP Construction, and Derwent Living, the University of Hertfordshire campus could proudly boast it was generating its own energy.

Project

In 2013, the Uliving consortium, consisting of , formerly 8868体育APP Development (lead company), a subsidiary of 8868体育APP Construction, and , was awarded a contract to finance, design, build and operate the campus of the of Hertfordshire, north of London.

Challenge

The project covered the construction of twenty-three buildings providing 3,000 student bedrooms, associated social spaces and a sports hall. Subject to a stringent environmental standards, the campus is the most advanced in the United Kingdom to date in terms of sustainability.

Environment

The timber-frame buildings are equipped with their own energy-production infrastructure based on a power and heat cogeneration system. After obtaining BREEAM Outstanding certification, which is the highest-level environmental standard, the buildings are now seeking 鈥渃arbon neutral鈥� or True Zero Carbon certification.

Responsible

The works, which lasted three years in all, were carried out with the site remaining in full operation. Particular care was paid to minimising pollution (noise, dust, etc.) to avoid disturbing the students who were on the site.聽
